- Are there prerequisite courses required for the MIP program?
The MIP program requires University-level introductory courses in microeconomics and macroeconomics, taken either as part of a student's undergraduate education, at another accredited educational institution, or through an approved online course. In addition, while not required, we strongly recommend applicants to complete an introductory course in statistics. An understanding of calculus may also be helpful in preparation for the Research Methods course sequence. All prerequisites must be completed prior to the start of classes in late September, however they do not need to be completed at the time of application.
A list of approved courses can be found here: MIP Prerequisites Approved Courses
- Does the program have an English language requirement?
Yes. Adequate command of spoken and written English is required for admission. TOEFL scores are required of all applicants whose first language is not English and who have not earned an undergraduate degree from an academic institution where all instruction is provided in English. Please see Graduate Admissions for more details.
- Does the program have a foreign language requirement?
No, there is no requirement to show proficiency in a foreign language in order to graduate.
- Is there room in my degree to pursue foreign language instruction?
Yes. Many MIP students decide to study a foreign language during their two years at Stanford. Language courses can be applied toward the cutomized electives degree requirement.
