Find out how to apply for the dual degree in Business and International Policy

This dual degree program is designed for students who are interested in working at the intersection of business and government both in the U.S. and abroad. The cross-disciplinary course of study will prepare you to be a leader in international organizations, non-profit organizations, social enterprises, consulting firms, and corporations that focus on a range of issues, such as international development, trade and finance, security, healthcare, and the environment. It can be completed in three years of academic residence.

Degree Requirements

You must fulfill the degree requirements for each program as outlined in the academic policies from each school for the year in which you begin the required curriculum.

M.B.A. Degree Requirements
M.B.A. Units: 90

M.A. Degree Requirements
M.A. Units: 54 (reduced from 80 for the stand-alone M.A. program)

  • 28 units of core courses
  • 9 units of capstone coursework
  • 17 units of courses in the area of specialization

Students may initiate their first year of study at either the GSB or MIP.

How to Apply

There are three options for applying to the dual degree program:

 

Apply as an external applicant to both degree programs

Students interested in the dual M.A./ M.B.A. degree must apply separately to be accepted by both the GSB and the MIP programs

 

Apply as a current Stanford GSB Student

  • MIP has one application deadline per year in early January. Please see the Graduate Admissions website for the annual deadline.
  • After admittance to the GSB, current students may apply to a dual degree program during their first year through an internal process.
  • GSB students must submit the following materials to MIP:
  1. Dual Degree Application Form
  2. Copy of GSB application (please ask the GSB to send this in PDF format to Jonathan Achter and Meghan Moura)
  3. Current transcript (can be official or unofficial)
  4. Letter of recommendation from a Stanford professor
  5. Statement of Purpose (2 pages, single spaced)
  6. Additional short essay (500 word limit)
  7. Current resume or CV
  8. List of macroeconomics and microeconomics coursework completed

 

Apply as a current Stanford MIP student

  • After admittance to MIP, current students may apply to the GSB by submitting a complete application. It is strongly recommended to apply in application round 1 or 2.
