Biography

Thay is a Master's in International Policy student focusing on Development and Governance. She joins the MIP program as she completes her Political Science bachelor’s degree at Stanford, with a focus on Political Economy and Development. She is co-president and co-founder of the Stanford Society for Latin American Politics. She joined Stanford as a non-traditional student, after spending many years in the UK engaging with Human Rights through Amnesty International’s Education team in London and as co-founder and co-director of Skaped, a charity that engages young people with Human Rights. Her interest in Human Rights law led her to earn a CPD in International Human Rights Law and Practice at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Just before joining Stanford, Thay also spent some time in her native Brazil working in education and engaging with national politics through Movimento Acredito, a pro-democracy movement that seeks to renew Brazilian politics whilst promoting ethics in politics and social equality.

Since joining Stanford in 2019, Thay has become heavily involved in Deliberative Democracy through the Centre on Democracy, Development and Rule of Law's Deliberative Democracy Lab. She is a co-lead and part of the executive committee of a national in-person deliberative democracy experiment in Brazil that aims to advise congress on policy that responds to the well-informed opinions of a representative sample of the Brazilian population.
