Biography

Stephen Buono, who was a Humanities Postdoctoral Fellow at CISAC from 2020 to 2022, is now an Ernest May Fellow in History & Policy at Harvard University. His research and teaching interests straddle modern political, cultural, and intellectual history; U.S. foreign relations; and science and technology. His first book, The Province of All Mankind, narrates the birth of outer space as a realm of American foreign policy and international law. At Harvard, he is at work on a second book about lunar governance in the Cold War. His research has benefitted from the support of NASA, the Carnegie Corporation, the Eisenhower Foundation, and the Kennedy Library, and has appeared in numerous journals and periodicals. He received his PhD in History at Indiana University, Bloomington.
