Ren Jie Teoh

Ren Jie joins Stanford following his best attempt to answer the question of what one does with a B.A. in English. After earning his thoroughly unmarketable degree from Harvard University, Ren Jie joined the Singapore civil service in 2018 to distract himself from a series of crushing literary failures. He has since worked in a variety of roles across the Ministry of Defence, most recently as co-lead of a team that investigates and attributes state-sponsored disinformation campaigns and other unconventional threats. He has also spent two years on secondment to economic agencies, where he worked on technology regulation and bilateral economic cooperation. At FSI, Ren Jie hopes to deepen his understanding of great power relations and state-sponsored disinformation, as well as obtain academic qualifications that his parents might actually accept. He is fluent in English and Mandarin.
