Philipp von Sicherer
Biography
Philipp von Sicherer is a Predoctoral Researcher at the Tech Impact and Policy Center. Philipp holds a Master of Arts in Psychological Sciences and Human Development from Cornell University and, prior to joining Stanford, completed internships at the Center for Public Health at the Medical University of Vienna and the Center for Humans and Machines at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. Philipp’s research centers on leveraging behavioral science insights to design and evaluate countermeasures against mis- and disinformation and harmful social media phenomena more broadly.
Current research
Australian Social Media Delay
Partnership with the eSafety Commissioner, Australia’s government agency for online safety, on a long-term, multi-method evaluation (e.g., longitudinal surveys, smartphone tracking, semi-structured interviews) of the Australian Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024, a landmark piece of legislation in effect since December 2025 that restricts individuals under the age of 16 from creating and holding accounts on certain social networking platforms, across multiple dimensions (e.g., compliance, changes in digital behavior, shifts in wellbeing).
