As we close out 2025, the Tech Impact and Policy (TIP) Center at Stanford University is proud to reflect on a year of groundbreaking research and impactful events. Here are some of the year’s key highlights:
New Initiatives and Research
- Youth Safety and Digital Wellbeing Report 2025
This landmark report examined the safety and wellbeing of youth in digital spaces, offering critical insights and actionable recommendations to strengthen online safety measures. - Phone-Free School Policies Toolkit
In partnership with the Tech and Society Lab at NYU Stern, the TIP Center launched a toolkit to help schools measure the impact of phone-free policies. This resource provides best practices for fostering healthier, more engaged learning environments.
Key Events and Seminars
- Trust and Safety Research Conference
Held at Stanford’s Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center on September 25–26, this event convened researchers, industry leaders, civil society, and government representatives to advance trust and safety research. Conference proceedings were published in the Journal of Online Trust and Safety. - Quarterly Seminar Series
Throughout the year, the TIP Center hosted 28 leading experts in AI, social media, and digital technologies. These weekly webinars explored emerging research, policy developments, and pressing challenges. Watch recorded sessions on our YouTube Channel.
Collaborative Efforts
- Social Media Lab and eSafety Team Australia
The Stanford Social Media Lab became the lead academic partner for the Australian Government’s eSafety team, evaluating the impact of the Social Media Minimum Age legislation, which took effect on December 10, 2025. This collaboration will generate vital data on the effects of this pioneering policy.
