The Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law (CDDRL) is proud to announce that several of its scholars have recently been honored with prestigious book awards, marking significant contributions to the fields of political science and history.

Anna Grzymala-Busse, the Michelle and Kevin Douglas Professor of International Studies, a senior fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, and the director of The Europe Center, has been awarded the American Political Science Association's (APSA) J. David Greenstone Award and the Hubert Morken Best Book in Religion and Politics Award for her book, Sacred Foundations: The Religious and Medieval Roots of the European State. Published in 2023, Grzymala-Busse's book explores the profound impact of religious and medieval institutions on the development of modern European states.

Sacred Foundations has also received Honorable Mentions for the Luebbert Book Prize in Comparative Politics from APSA's Comparative Politics Section and the Robert L. Jervis and Paul W. Schroeder Best Book Award from the International History and Politics Section.
