This dataset contains all national political parties and politicians classified as populist and their electoral support from 1945 to 2023, in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Populists are coded as making both the claim that the status quo elites are corrupt or malevolent, and that the people need representation as such, following the widely accepted criteria set out by Cas Mudde (2004.) Other variables include the percentage of immigrants in the population and economic growth indicators.
