Investigators
Fritz Steinhausler
George Bunn - Stanford University
Scott D. Sagan - Stanford University
Lyudmila Zaitseva
Under the leadership of George Bunn, CISAC consulting professor, and Fritz Steinhausler (University of Salzburg), a visiting professor at CISAC and IIS, the European Forum and CISAC co-sponsored workshops on the legal and illegal transport and diversion of hazardous materials and the US and EU policy responses to the threats to security. CISAC also conducted a project to strengthen global practices for protecting nuclear material against theft and sabotage, led by Bunn and Steinhausler. Steinhausler worked closely with Scott Sagan (Political Science, IIS Senior Fellow) at CISAC and was part of CISAC's team-taught course on international security. Lyudmila Zaitseva, a CISAC visiting fellow from the National Nuclear Centre in Semipalatinsk (Kazakhstan), worked on documenation and information about nuclear and security issues in the former Soviet Union. In addition, Steinhausler worked with Jim Sweeney (Engineering-Economic Systems/Operations Research) on an integrative approach to assessing the impact of the complete nuclear fuel cycle (from uranium mining to waste disposal) on the environment.
