This project examines the law and policy of the European Union for e-business activities as well as the relevant economic governance issues and regulatory practices including the transatlantic (EU-U.S.) marketplace. In its initial stage, the project includes the "European Union E-commerce Law: Consolidated Legislation" project. This project focuses on the legal framework of the European Union for pursuing e-business activities in Europe. The purpose of this initial project is to collect the most relevant legislation of the European Union for e-business activities in Europe and to publish it in a consolidated form. The topics covered include: e-commerce, consumer protection and distance selling, e-signatures, copyright and information society, conditional access, e-money, domain names, privacy/data protection, applicable contract law, and jurisdiction.

The project is cosponsored by the The Europe Center at FSI Stanford, the Stanford-Vienna Transatlantic Technology Law Forum (a joint venture of Stanford Law School and the University of Vienna School of Law), and the Stanford Center for E-commerce. The project's principal investigator is Dr. Siegfried Fina, Associate Professor of European Union Law and Technology Law at the University of Vienna School of Law and co-director of the Stanford-Vienna Transatlantic Technology Law Forum.
