Nature magazine features Bravata research on low-carb diets

A feature article in the March 18 issue of Nature magazine, "Slim pickings," leads off with CHP/PCOR research associate Dena M. Bravata and the story of how inquiries from her own patients spurred her -- with the help of her twin sister at Yale University -- to undertake a meta-analysis examining the safety and efficacy of low-carbohydrate diets. Bravata's study, the article explains, found no hard evidence that reducing carbohydrate intake was more effective than other diets, and it found that few of the studies on low-carbohydrate diets were scientifically rigorous.
