Japan's efforts to reconcile the past

Japan’s government has created a new program to facilitate reconciliation efforts with soldiers that it held captive during WWII, recently inviting six former U.S. prisoners and their family members to Japan for an eight-day visit. As reconciliation efforts are met with mixed reactions, Daniel C. Sneider, Shorenstein APARC’s associate director for research and a member of the Divided Memories and Reconciliation research project, spoke with Japan Real Time about the need for Japan’s government to address specific past actions in order to successfully move forward with reconciling the past.
