Gaba comments on new surgical "timeout" rules on National Public Radio

CHP/PCOR fellow David M. Gaba provided comment for a National Public Radio segment about new rules from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, mandating a "timeout" before surgeries, to prevent errors by verifying the patient's identity, surgical site and type of procedure. Gaba said that in surgery, as in other high-risk endeavors such as aviation, all members of the team must feel free to speak up if they see a potential error.
