CDDRL Director, Stephen Krasner, named Director of Policy Planning, US Department of State

CDDRL Director, Stephen D. Krasner, has been asked to serve as the incoming Director of Policy Planning at the United States Department of State. Krasner will serve under his friend and colleague, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice.

Previous Directors of Policy Planning include George Kennan, Paul Nitze, Anthony Lake, Paul Wolfowitz, Dennis Ross and Richard Haas. "I will miss Stanford and CDDRL," said Krasner, "but this was an offer that I simply could not refuse." Krasner attended Rice's confirmation hearings in Washington January 18 and 19. He took up his post at the State Department on January 31, 2005, although he plans frequent visits back to California.
