Bruce Gilley is an Associate Professor of Political Science in the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University. His research centers on comparative and international politics, and he is a specialist on the politics of China and Asia. He is the author of four university-press books, includingChina’s Democratic Future(2004) and co-editor of several volumes includingPolitical Change in China: Comparisons with Taiwan(co-edited with Larry Diamond) (2008) and the forthcomingReshaping China: Why Middle Powers Matter(with Andrew O’Neil). His article “Not So Dire Straits: How the Finlandization of Taiwan Benefits U.S. Security” appeared inForeign Affairsin 2010. He holds a PhD from Princeton University and an M.Phil. from the University of Oxford.
