Speaker
Margaret L. Brandeau - Stanford University

Between 2004 and 2009, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will donate $200 million to support HIV prevention programs in India through its India AIDS Initiative. This project focuses on HIV prevention among core transmitter groups (e.g., commercial sex workers and their clients) and mobile populations. This talk addresses two key questions: (1) How can the cost-effectiveness of programs funded by this project be assessed? (2) What data and what types of models are needed to support such analyses?

For this Research in Progress seminar, Margaret Brandeau will present a framework for cost-effectiveness analysis of interventions in the India AIDS Iniative. She will illustrate her research group's ideas by using a simplified model of HIV transmission in India. She will discuss how such a model might be tailored to evaluate specific interventions, and discuss the types of data likely to be required to implement such a model.

Collaborators for this project are Joseph R. Chaudry, Elisa F. Long, MS, and Douglas Owens, MD, MS.
